Technology workers can come together to form democratic businesses that are owned and operated either by the workers only or also by consumers and producers. Without VC funding command such cooperatives may grow slower but leave more control in the hands of the members while also creating more sustainable businesses, rooted in communities. The platform co-op model is more responsive to the creation of a more diverse and safe working environment because workers can could determine their clients and can speak out more freely in their workplace.
